Marie Holman: A Celebration of Life

Marie M. “Ladybug” Holman, 96, of Gales Ferry, passed away peacefully Friday, April 7, 2023, at Fairview in Groton.  She was born November 27, 1926, in New London, Connecticut to Arthur and Mary Cooper Marquardt. She married Robert E. “Scottie” Holman; he preceded her in 2020.

Marie graduated from Fitch high school on D-day, June 6,1944, then she continued her education and graduated from RI College, 1948.

Marie was very active in her community and church. She was a lifetime girl scout having been camp director, cookie chairperson, service unit treasurer to name a few! Ledyard schools substitute, PTA member, town poll worker, founding member of the Ledyard Parks and Recreation Department, Ledyard Fair clam chowder volunteer, Dow Chemical Plant community member, AFS foreign exchange student program participant, US Coast Guard foreign cadet family sponsor program to name a few. United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry member, church schoolteacher, and many more church positions as well as committees.

Marie and Scottie traveled to many foreign countries. They always went tent camping with their family to many parts of the USA.

Marie is survived by Sons: Danny Holman and his wife Diana of Stonington, CT, Scott Holman and his wife Pam of Norton, MA, Karl Holman and his wife Donna of Groton, CT and Guy Holman and his wife Debbie of Mattapoisett, MA; Daughters: Vicki Reid and her husband Glenn of Waterford, CT and Tina Ohlemacher and her husband David of Merrimack, NH; 8 Grandchildren:  Dawn Brown and her husband Jerry, Jill Holman, Hannah Holman, Sara Holman and her partner Matt, Emma Holman, Jeffrey Holman Jack Ohlmacher and Seth Ohlmacher; 5 Great Grandchildren:  Ethan, Marissa, Sloan, Scarlett, and Makenna; Brother: Rich Marquardt and his wife May; Sister: Jane Imdahl.

Besides her husband Robert "Scottie", she was preceded in death by Brother: Mick Marquardt and Arthur Marquardt; Sisters: Fran Holman and Lois Blaisdell.

Visitation is from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Friday June 2, 2023, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street in Groton. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm Saturday June 3, 2023 at the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry, 10 Chapman Lane in Gales Ferry.
