A Crop Walk Update
Congratulations to all who made the 2024 Crop Walk a success! Preliminary statistics are in. The seven organizations that supported this walk, five churches, United Way team, and unaffiliated volunteers, fielded 98 walkers and raised $18,439.76 for Church World Service. Twenty-five percent if the total income will be awarded to the Gemma Moran/United Way/Labor Food Center to address hunger in southeastern CT.
UMCGF had 54 walkers (39 last year) and raised $8,623.11 ($8,335 last year). The Live Wires class served lunch for our walkers much appreciated- and the Gazebo Guitars provided great festive music! We had a beautiful day for the walk.
A special thanks to Frank Denton for chairing the CROP WALK steering committee. State Senator Cathy Osten addressed the crowd and Rev. Mark Santucci offered a prayer.

Your participation impacts individuals and families in more than 35 countries. In many developing nations, people could walk up to six miles a day to get food and water. One in nine people worldwide lack access to clean water and a healthy diet. We walk to show solidarity and to bring awareness while raising funds for permanent change. From its birth in 1969, CWS-sponsored CROP Hunger Walks have grown to include walkers of all ages, faiths and backgrounds in more than 500 communities throughout the U.S. The CROP Hunger Walk is the only nationwide Walk that addresses hunger both locally and globally.
We walk because they walk.
By walking in the CROP Hunger Walk, you make a difference. As our climate changes, your steps equip farmers with the tools they need to be resilient.
Together, we help families and individuals adapt and make the changes they need to improve their lives.
