THANK YOU:  Thank you to Kurt Eichelberg, Ron Miller, Pastor Tom, Deneane & visiting family, Dan & Nancy Reilly, Beth Bohara, Mark Lamb, and Craig Dawson for coming to the rescue at the church when we had a flood from an overflowing toilet Monday morning.

Please take the time to be sure that no water is running when you leave a bathroom.  Jo Ann Koe hall was completely flooded on Monday morning and it ran down to the Child Care Center.  Our insurance company assisted us to bring in a repair crew and they helped to soak up water and dry things out, but we are still in recovery mode and may have some damage that will need repairing.

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING:  There will be a brief special council meeting after church on January 6th.  All council members are encouraged to attend.

MEN’S BREAKFAST:   All men of the church are invited to a time of fellowship and food on January 12th at 7:30 a.m. in the Blue Room.  Contact Ron Miller with questions, chamaron77@comcast.net

MEMBERSHIP EXPLORATION CLASS:  If you are not a member of the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry and would like to explore what it means to be one, you are invited to join our upcoming Membership Exploration Class. The class will be taught by Pastor Tom Bentum and will be held at the church Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30. Sign up through the church office or Pastor Tom. Here are the dates of the class and the topics to be covered:

January 15: Our Mission and Ministry

      January 22: Our History

      January 29: Our Beliefs

CHILDREN’S MISSION PROJECT 2018-2019:  Our Sunday school mission project for the past couple of years has been to support Deneane Bentum as school nurse at Gallup Hill School meet the needs of children.  Due to the growing numbers within the school it has been decided that snacks and food related support will go through the main office.  This way the district can get a better handle on the needs within our community and address the issue.  We will no longer be collecting individually package snacks, but there is the need for hard candy such as peppermint stars or non-medicated throat drops.

Clothing, such as new underwear and socks, and gently used sweatpants, leggings, tops, sneakers, boots, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, or mittens are appreciated.  The collection box is in the blue room.  Thank you all for your support of this project.

COFFEE HOUR LIST:  We have NO ONE signed up for January 13th and we have additional dates in January & February that are available, please sign up for a date that works for you.  Instructions will be sent and it takes less than an hour of your time.  Thank you for volunteering!

PLEDGE ENVELOPES:  Please let Marcia know if you would like pledge envelopes for your 2019 pledge or contributions.

POINSETTIAS:  Please feel free to take a poinsettia after church on Sunday, we have a few left over from Christmas Eve.

CHURCH DATABASE:  We are now using an online database for attendance, financial and family  information.  The benefits of having this information stored online include the ability for all church members to update their own information and to access an online directory.  All families who attend regularly should have received an e-mail invitation to access the database and update their information.  We are also asking that you add individual and family photographs to your profile for the online directory.  See the September Sounding Board for more details and contact Dan Reilly at DReilly85@comcast.net, with any questions or concerns.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY: During Lent, the Prayer Shawl Ministry embraced a special project: Afghan Knitting Project/Project Amigo (www.projectamigo.org). Our goal was to knit/crochet squares that would be used to create afghans for Project Amigo scholarship recipients (children and young adults). Another goal of the Project Amigo program is to provide a source of income for the people who sew the afghans together.  We were happy that over 523 knitted/crocheted squares were made.  That created 6 afghans.  Fantastic! Thanks to those knitters/crocheters who participated in this project.  Since, Afghan Knitting Project/Project Amigo is an ongoing project; the Prayer Shawl Ministry has decided to continue with it as well.  We invite anyone who would like to participate to do so.  If you would like the information regarding the details and instructions, please contact Zondra Thompson (zserine@aol.com).  This is a project that can be done at home, traveling, etc and the squares can be dropped off in the designated box in the blue room. Thank you and God Bless!

JANUARY SOUNDING BOARD & OUR DAILY BREAD DEVOTIONAL:  We have copies of the December Sounding Board in the Narthex, outside the office & in the Blue Room.  The December/January/February issue of Our Daily Bread is also available in the Blue Room

UMC MARKET:  There is information on the table outside the church office about the UMC Market which is a great way to make money for your church.  Similar to the SCRIP program, you spend no extra money, but when you purchase something online through the UMC Market, the church gets a percentage back.  If you aren’t in church over the next few weeks, call the office for more info.
