Led By The Spirit, We Seek, Share, Serve...

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, HFHECT, in the spirit of sharing, creates decent and affordable homes in partnership with families in need. We do this through the dedicated efforts of community volunteers, financial sponsors and partner families who find rewarding experiences by sharing their time, talents and resources. The goal is to make a difference in the lives of others, fulfill the dream of home ownership and help eliminate sub-standard housing in Eastern Connecticut.

HFHECT works to build or rehabilitate houses using volunteer labor and donated building materials or materials purchased with donated money. The affiliate’s financial backing comes from private citizens, foundations, corporations, and area churches. Future homeowners work side by side with volunteers from the community and, once they move into their house, they make regular payments on a no-interest mortgage. Our UMCGF congregation covenants with Habitat to pray for the program, provide volunteers, and give financial support; UMCGF Quilters make and present a beautiful quilt for each new Habitat family. Our church has supported the local Habitat affiliate since it began in 1987.

Volunteers Needed!  A home at 235 Yetter Rd in Mystic is nearing completion, but volunteers are needed to make that happen.  Skilled volunteers are appreciated, but unskilled volunteers can be trained for the current needs.  Orientation is required for all volunteers and registration is necessary for any work day, but these steps can be completed online at the Habitat website – www.habitatect.org.  If you have questions contact Frank Denton or Sandy Beall.
