Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This coming Lenten Season, the Prayer Shawl Ministry will begin a Mission Project.  The Project is called Afghan Knitting Project sponsored by Project Amigo (www.projectamigo.org).  The Afghan Knitting Project was initiated by Dr. Samuel R. Brown, PhD, a Project Amigo volunteer. Dr. Brown resides in Cheshire, Ct.  Dr. Brown states that, “The Goal of the afghan project is to provide afghans to the 160 Project Amigo scholarship recipients in grades seven through University-level and for the hundreds of children involved in the project Amigo primary school incentive program”. A Second goal is to provide a source of income for the people who sew the afghans together.  The majority of them are unemployed mothers of Project Amigo scholarship recipients.

We will be knitting or crocheting squares that will be sent to Dr. Brown in Cheshire, who in turn will collect and send the yarn squares to Colima, Mexico, where the squares will be sewn into afghans and given to Project Amigo students.  If you would like more information go to www.projectamigo.org.  If you want a copy of the pattern for the squares, contact Joanne Moorhead.  If you crochet, you can crochet a square 5 x 5 or 6 x 6 (any pattern and any color).  Our first deadline is April 1st.  Contact Joanne Moorehead with questions.
